UNLOCKED UNKNOWN

*Work in Progress*

A VR puzzle game rooted in the alien culture of Yanroth, exploring how reality is shaped by belief and perception.

Role:
Director · Level Designer · Game & Puzzle Designer · Unreal Engine Technical Artist · Narrative Designer
Timeline:
Fall 2024 – Present

Project Overview
A VR puzzle experience developed as a thesis project at USC, Unlocked Unknown is set in the alien world of Yanroth, where subjective perception shapes spatial logic, identity, and reality. Players explore a tomb-like environment that transforms as their understanding deepens. Built in Unreal Engine 5, the game features custom puzzle systems, level progression, interaction mechanics, and environment implementation. It explores how belief reshapes space—and how space, in turn, reshapes belief.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall creative direction, level layout, puzzle mechanics, and technical implementation.

  • Designed player experience through spatial progression and perception-based interaction.

  • Developed narrative structure and lore elements grounded in the speculative alien culture of Yanroth.

  • Oversaw asset integration, lighting, and VR optimization in Unreal Engine 5.

  • Led a small interdisciplinary team of artists and engineers.

Collaborated with the visual team to develop worldbuilding assets, directing their integration into the game's spatial and narrative framework through 2D concept sketches and 3D visual development.
